Ingredients
- 3 cups of bread flour
- 1 cup of tangy buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons of rich packed brown sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons of kosher salt
- 1 packet of active dry yeast weighing 0.25 ounces
- 1 egg yolk for binding
- 2 tablespoons of light canola oil
- 1 stick of creamy butter
Step 1
Combine bread flour, buttermilk, brown sugar, salt, yeast, and egg yolk in a bread machine. Choose the Dough setting and let the machine work its magic until the mixture is moist. Pause the cycle to add oil, then resume until the Dough cycle is complete.
Step 2
Prepare muffin pans or a baking sheet by greasing them and setting them aside for later use.

Once the dough is ready, take it out of the machine and give it a good punch. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions, shaping each into smooth, round rolls. Place them in the muffin pans or on the baking sheet, ensuring they have some space between them. Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and allow them to rise in a warm spot until they double in size, which should take around 25 minutes.
Step 4
While the rolls are proofing, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake the rolls for about 20 minutes in the preheated oven until they turn a lovely golden brown. After baking, enhance the softness of the crust by gently rubbing the tops of the hot rolls with a stick of butter. Let the rolls cool slightly before serving them warm.
