Ingredients
- 1. Fluffy egg white
- 2. A generous splash of water
- 3. A hearty portion of lean ground beef
- 4. Equal parts of zesty bulk hot Italian sausage
- 5. A dollop of Asian sweet chili sauce, customized to your liking
- 6. A sprinkle of Chinese five-spice powder
- 7. A hint of garlic powder
- 8. Finely chopped green onion for a burst of freshness
- 9. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper
- 10. A pack of delicate wonton wrappers
- 11. Abundant vegetable oil for frying
- 12. A side of Asian sweet chili sauce for dipping
Step 1
Whisk together the egg white and water in a small bowl and keep it to the side for now. In another bowl, combine the ground beef, sausage, a tablespoon of sweet chili sauce, five-spice powder, garlic powder, chopped green onion, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Step 2
Take a wonton wrapper and place a spoonful of the meat mixture on it, with one corner closer to you. Fold the left and right corners inwards to cover the filling slightly, then roll the bottom corner up tightly to make a snug pocket around the filling. Keep rolling until just the tip of the remaining corner peeks out; use the egg white mixture to seal this corner shut.
Step 3
In a deep-fryer or large saucepan, heat oil to about 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 4
Fry the egg rolls in batches in the hot oil until they turn a lovely golden brown, which should take around 3 to 5 minutes. Once done, let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate before serving. Enjoy with a side of half a cup of sweet chili sauce for dipping.
Extra Tips & Suggestions
- 1. Keep your savory beef and sausage wontons fresh and ready to enjoy by storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- 2. For longer storage, consider freezing your wontons. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag for easy access later on.
- 3. To prevent sticking, you can also sprinkle a little bit of cornstarch or flour between the wontons before freezing them.
